My workflow as a WordPress Developer

How I do it

Having developed WordPress websites for businesses such as ADHD Direct, Clyde Windows & Construction, and Mack & Rose, I have learned the importance of a structured approach when building a website for those businesses.

The Specification

At the start of every project is the requirement specification, which is essentially the planning stage. This includes outlining your goals and vision, as well as providing a detailed list of your website’s functionalities. These may include CMS customisations, user sign-ups, or even integrations with your CRM.

Creating a Content Plan

From there, we will plan out your content, which will be crucial to meeting any SEO goals. This often involves using dynamic content and templates, allowing you to generate pages in the backend and take charge of your site, rather than relying on individually built static pages.

The Design

The content plan will then be handed to the designer, who will create a full prototype in Figma. This will be followed by a meeting where we can discuss possible changes or improvements.

The Development

Once the design has been approved, we move to the next step: setting up your website on my local development server. The finished site will later be published to either my web hosting or yours, depending on whether you would like me to maintain your site or prefer to manage it on your own hosting.

Testing & Handover

Once your site is ready, we will move to the handover stage, where we will refine every last detail until you are fully satisfied. You will also receive detailed documentation—sometimes in the form of video tutorials—on how to use your WordPress CMS.

Why choose me to develop your website?

Finding the right fit

Finding the right developer or agency to build your website can be a real challenge. Once you start researching which CMS to use and how to set everything up, it can quickly become technical and overwhelming, with so many choices to make. If you’ve found your way to this page, you’re probably already considering WordPress and are now looking for a developer to bring your project to life.

I’d be happy to help you with your decision — just get in touch and we can arrange a no-obligation consultation.

My strengths lie in creating custom code and search engine optimisation. I am passionate about my work and enjoy coding solutions to your challenges, but I also believe in being honest and transparent. If I don’t see good prospects for your website performing well, I’ll be upfront about it. At the end of the day, my clients’ satisfaction is my highest priority, and I’d always rather you get the right solution for your needs than pay for something unnecessary.

I usually collaborate with a dedicated UX/UI designer to create a design tailored to your brand, which can be especially helpful if you want your brand to really stand out.

Why choose a freelancer to build your WordPress site?

A strong partner for your business

If you’ve decided on WordPress as your CMS or are considering switching from another website builder, the next step is determining how to develop your site. Should you build it yourself, hire a freelancer, or work with an agency?

Building Your WordPress Site Yourself

At first, handling the project yourself might seem like the most cost-effective option. However, it requires a significant investment of time and resources to learn WordPress, troubleshoot technical issues, and maintain security. This can divert your focus from growing your business and may lead to higher costs in the long run due to potential mistakes or security vulnerabilities.

Hiring an Agency

Agencies offer a team of specialists covering all aspects of website development, including backend and frontend development, design, content creation, and marketing. While this comprehensive approach ensures high-quality results, it often comes at a premium cost.

Agencies typically charge upwards of £10,000 for a full website concept, design, and deployment, often bundled with a maintenance contract. If you choose to work with an agency, research their track record carefully and ensure their pricing and long-term contracts align with your budget.

Hiring a Freelancer

Working with a freelance WordPress developer is a cost-effective alternative to an agency, often providing similar quality at a fraction of the price. Experienced freelancers can deliver custom solutions while maintaining flexibility in pricing and services.

To provide the same level of expertise as an agency, I collaborate with a trusted network of marketers, copywriters, and graphic designers. This ensures my clients receive high-quality work tailored to their needs without the overhead costs of an agency.

Final Thoughts

Regardless of the approach you choose, it's always beneficial to get multiple opinions before making a decision. Comparing two or three options can help you find the best fit for your business goals and budget.

My client feedback:

He’s also very personable and easy to communicate with.
